The Unexpected Lessons of Becoming a First-Time Cat Mum
Before PawketPlace was even a thought, I was just another corporate girl with a five-year plan and a calendar full of meetings. I loved animals from a safe, Instagram-scrolling distance. But owning one? That felt overwhelming.
What if I couldn’t handle it?
What if I messed up?
What if I became that chaotic pet owner?
Then came my two cats.
The first year was pure chaos. I panicked over hairballs and diarrhoea. I rushed to the vet more times than I can count and spent on unnecessary bills all because I didn’t realize I had changed their diet too quickly. No one told me how sensitive their little stomachs could be. Then came the vaccinations, the sterilisation timelines… and the confusion. I didn’t know what I was supposed to do, when to do it, or why it even mattered.
I relied on friends, and Google to get through it. I was doing my best. But everything felt disconnected. Notes here, receipts there. No real system. Just vibes and guesswork.
That’s when it hit me: pet parenting wasn’t hard because I didn’t care. It was hard because the tools weren’t built for us.
I wasn’t alone. And neither are you. We’re in this together, one paw at a time.
